ASLA Opportunity Strikes
At the right place at the right time….
Earlier this month during the ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) Annual Meeting in Chicago, I had the opportunity to explore the expansive exposition hall full of vendors that cater to the business of landscape architecture as a whole. A large contingent of those showcasing their wares were playground equipment manufacturers.
Now, I love playgrounds….no, really……I LOVE playgrounds. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with schools and communities across the Midwest to design some very unique play environments. One of my current clients was right in the middle of deciding on a design for their new playground when I came across the Landscape Structures, Inc. display at the ASLA EXPO. The display contained a full size play structure with all the bells and whistles and a lot of custom features that my clients would have been really excited to have. In talking with the LSI folks manning the booth I found out that the structure would be on sale following the show – at a deep discount. They didn’t want to box it up and take it home and we needed a structure. A few emails, phone calls and a couple of days later my client had bought the structure and it is currently enroute to Elkhart, IN to be installed in the Spring 2016 at a school playground!
Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
