For the Mendoza College of Business Landscape Design, a master landscape plan was developed for the entire building. The first phase of implementation included updating the courtyard with custom benches, planters, and new landscape.
The existing landscape was mature and overcrowded the building in many areas. A comprehensive existing plant inventory and analysis were completed which included recommendations for tree management and removal based on the existing condition of the tree and its location with the building in regard to current and future size. The schematic design drew on the landscape from Stayer Center and the nautical theme from which many of the forms of the Mendoza building were developed.
Improvements include masses of low plant material to meet the scale of the building and make the central plaza more usable by providing shade and updating the landscape.
